OuterBay selected by Water Pik Technologies to reduce downtime for 11i upgrade and improve oracle application performance

Water Pik Technologies Builds Proactive Application Data Management Practice Using OuterBay Software

CAMPBELL, Calif. August 27, 2002 OuterBay Technologies, Inc., a provider of Application Data Management solutions, today announced that Water Pik Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: PIK) has implemented OuterBays LiveArchive to enhance a future upgrade to Oracle 11i and improve the performance of its Oracle applications. Water Pik Technologies, with sales of $281.9 million in 2001, has incorporated LiveArchive as part of its ongoing, proactive Application Data Management practice.

"OuterBays solution is helping us to meet our Oracle 11i upgrade objectives," said Reggie Thurn, Information Technology Business Analyst at Water Pik Technologies. "The Oracle 11i upgrade presented a number of challenges. We are confident that OuterBays LiveArchive will significantly reduce the upgrade outage time, minimize the amount of business down time, reduce future storage infrastructure investment and improve application performance.

When implementation at Water Pik Technologies is completed in September 2002, OuterBay LiveArchive is expected to:

  • Trim Oracle application database footprint by 60 percent

  • Reduce anticipated downtime for Oracle 11i auto upgrade from weeks to three days

  • Improve customer service through faster application performance

  • Preview data growth, identify areas of opportunity and reinforce data retention policies

  • Enable real-time access to archived data through native Oracle application interface

OuterBay was highly recommended by several industry experts, and has proven to be a great partner, continued Thurn. We looked at other vendors, but OuterBays solution offered Water Pik Technologies the immediate benefits, long-term cost-savings and performance improvements we were looking for.

OuterBays Application Data Management software provides a unique approach that allows companies to get off the storage treadmill and attack the root cause of IT performance problems, said OuterBay Chief Executive Officer Michael Howard. Our application-aware solutions address data management in the context of business applications and processes to improve their performance, stability, and manageability. OuterBay provides an ongoing best practice that reduces infrastructure costs by predicting data growth and minimizing the associated investment in infrastructure.
