OuterBay Archiver Reduces System Outage Time fromOracle Application Upgrades
-OuterBay announces the general availabilityof OuterBay Archiver, supporting Release 11i of Oracle Applications-

SAN JOSE,Calif. and at OAUG, ATLANTA, Ga. (April 25, 2001) -OuterBay Technologies, asupplier of software that maximizes the performance, reliability andavailability of mission-critical packaged applications, announced today thatits data archiving solution, the OuterBay Archiver, supports OracleApplications Release 11i.

The OuterBay Archiver is thefirst software product designed to alleviate the problem of data build-up inpackaged applications. The build-up ofdata increases the time required to process critical business transactions andto upgrade to new versions of software.Information Technology (IT) organizations are confronted with the taskof effectively balancing the value-added business features of OracleApplications Release 11i with the time and costs associated with implementing anew version of the software. OuterBaycustomers report that the use of OuterBay Archiver to manage historical datasignificantly reduces disruptive production outages. Other benefits recognized through the use of OuterBay Archiverinclude minimized storage costs and the ability to maintain consistent, predictableperformance.

The OuterBay Archiver isavailable at a time when many companies are wrestling with the issues involvedin upgrading their Oracle Applications to Release 11i. One specific challenge most IT groups aretrying to solve is the amount of downtime required to upgrade. The OuterBay Archiver will help companiesreduce the amount of time their Oracle Applications are offline and allow themto restore operational status in a shorter timeframe, stated Bill Morrow, vicepresident of sales for OuterBay.

One factor in reducingdowntime during an upgrade is the reduction of the amount of data stored in acompanys application database. OracleApplications addresses this situation through purge functions built into theapplication. OuterBay Archiver extendsOracles purge functions by intelligently depositing older data into an onlinearchive database. This allows more effective management of businesstransactions and easy access to the data through the same end-user interfaces.

The OuterBay Archiverfurther enhances Oracle Applications operations beyond the upgrade period. Byestablishing a regular schedule on which to run the OuterBay Archiver, businesses are able to control performance of the applications environment andto reduce the costs of storage. OuterBay Archiver stabilizes the performanceof packaged applications, added Morrow. Instead of operations slowing down asmore information is added, performance remains at a steady level, enabling CIOsand IT managers to address other, more strategic concerns. It is also equally important today tocontrol data growth -- it allows CIOs to better manage their costs forstorage.
