About the Program

Just give me the keys. I'm outta here!

Whoa! Slow down concrete cowboy! Look, we know you've just spent 16 years under your parents' watchful eye and you're anxious to hit the road. FREEDOM! Finally, you can drive yourself to school, go out on the weekends, and not have to ask the parental units to drive you around!

But this new freedom doesn't mean you're free to do whatever you want on the road. You need to ease into the "wheel world". When you're behind the wheel of a one ton speaker-thumpin' chunk of metal, you've got to have some street smarts. There are no auditions, second chances, or do overs. Showing off behind the wheel won't get you anywhere, but dead. That's why you should take some time to learn what it means to be a safe and responsible driver. That may sound like a real snoozer, but it will help your parents feel more comfortable handing over the keys.

ERROR MSGBefore you head out on the road, log on and play Dusseldorf accommodationRoad Ready StreetWise and find out if you're road ready!

What is Road Ready Teens?
Road Ready Teens provides parents of teenagers learning to drive — or those who’ve just begun to drive — with tips and tools to ease their teens into driving. With Road Ready Teens, teenagers are able to first gain critical experience and driving maturity before they face higher risk situations.

Why a Teen Driving Program?
Traffic crashes are the number one killer of teenagers. In fact, on average, one teenager dies each hour, each weekend in the United States. Teenagers 16 to 19 are far more likely to be killed in a car crash than any other age group. However, there is something parents can do. Research shows that when parents take an active role in their teens’ driving education and set certain driving guidelines, their teens’ chances of being in a crash can be reduced by up to one-third. Based on research and principles advocated by the nation’s top safety organizations, program’s tips and tools help teens gain the necessary driving experience and maturity behind the wheel before tackling high-risk driving situations.

Harnessing Proven Experience and Results
With so many teens being injured or killed on our nation’s roadways, teen driving safety has become a national priority for the nation’s top safety organizations. Road Ready Teens is working with many of these organizations to harness their experience and develop a research-based approach to tackle this tragic epidemic. Joining DaimlerChrysler are AAA, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), and the National Safety Council (NSC). Offering technical support and counsel are the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). These organizations have taken the lead to research and develop steps that give young drivers vital experience and keep them safe. Their collective knowledge and support help make Road Ready Teens the most comprehensive teen driving safety initiative in the country today.

In addition, HP will help widen the reach and the availability of the Parent’s Guide and the Road Ready StreetWise video game.

Road Ready Teens Parent's Guide
The heart of Road Ready Teens is the Road Ready Teens Parent’s Guide. The Parent’s Guide includes the information, tools, and techniques parents need to implement Road Ready Teens in their home and help keep their teen drivers safe.

Road Ready StreetWise Video Game
While reaching parents is vital, teens also need to understand why Road Ready Teens is so important. DaimlerChrysler has developed a Web-based driving game that challenges teens and illustrates the risks they face, teaching them the importance of gaining experience and visually demonstrating why complying with the rules is so important. Road Ready StreetWiseHoteles Germania is unlike many games you find on the Web. It rivals the quality of home gaming systems, and is quickly and easily downloadable through an Internet connection. The game allows both young men and women to electronically pass game situations and scores onto their friends via e-mail challenges. Road Ready StreetWise puts young drivers’ skills to the test.

Reaching Parents and Teens
DaimlerChrysler is activating its nationwide system of dealers to reach families with young drivers by distributing the Parent’s Guide. Road Ready Teens also is sponsoring MADD’s all new multimedia show called FACEERROR MSG, which will visit nearly 2,000 high schools across the country in the first year. MADD also will distribute the Parent’s Guide through their local affiliates and through other distribution partnerships.
