Part of Road Ready Teens is the Web-based video game, Road Ready StreetWise. Initial game testing with teens learning to drive, conducted by the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute, found that StreetWise raises awareness and understanding of the risks teens face behind the wheel. After playing the game, a majority of teens are more likely to take steps to protect themselves from driving risks. The testing also found that teens believe video games are a better way to communicate safety messages to them than other communications such as videos and brochures. Six out of 10 parents say driving safety is a top concern when it comes to their teens — far outranking fears such as pregnancy, suicide, and drug and alcohol abuse according to a survey commissioned by DaimlerChrysler. Overwhelmingly, parents say they know their teen drivers engage in unsafe driving behaviors. Click below to read the complete findings of the Parents of Teens National Survey.
