About the Program

What is Road Ready Teens?
Road Ready TeensERROR MSG provides parents of teenagers learning to drive — or those who’ve just begun to drive — with tips and tools to ease their teens into driving. With Road Ready TeensERROR MSG, teenagers are able to first gain critical experience and driving maturity before they face higher risk situations.

Why a Teen Driving Program?
Traffic crashes are the number one killer of teenagers. In fact, on average, one teenager dies each hour, each weekend in the United States. Teenagers 16 to 19 are far more likely to be killed in a car crash than any other age group. However, there is something parents can do. Research shows that when parents take an active role in their teens’ driving education and set certain driving guidelines, their teens’ chances of being in a crash can be reduced by up to one-third. Based on research and principles advocated by the nation’s top safety organizations, program’s tips and tools help teens gain the necessary driving experience and maturity behind the wheel before tackling high-risk driving situations.

Harnessing Proven Experience and Results
With so many teens being injured or killed on our nation’s roadways, teen driving safety has become a national priority for the nation’s top safety organizations. Road Ready Teens is working with many of these organizations to harness their experience and develop a research-based approach to tackle this tragic epidemic. Joining DaimlerChrysler are AAA, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), and the National Safety Council (NSC). Offering technical support and counsel are the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). These organizations have taken the lead to research and develop steps that give young drivers vital experience and keep them safe. Their collective knowledge and support help make Road Ready Teens the most comprehensive teen driving safety initiative in the country today.

In addition, HP will help widen the reach and the availability of the Parent’s Guide and the Road Ready StreetWise video game.
